I will watch. However, when it comes to Social Security and Medicare, our political leaders have long suggested to workers that they "earned" these benefits based on the taxes they paid while employed - FICA and FICA-Med.

Whatever the Beltway folks decide as the future of these "entitlements" (not earnings), they might start with: (1) Some honesty, yesterday's and today's workers that Congress did not tax workers enough to fund the benefits promise, (2) Stop digging, freeze the current entitlements and formulas, (3) Fix the current system - Adjust funding to make what has already been promised sustainable indefinitely (automatically self-correcting each year), and (4) Separate any new features, future Congresses can then take credit for the new benefits they authorize and the new taxes necessary to fund them.

Very little is worse than misleading people over a 30, 40, 50 or longer year period of employment and then retroactively changing the benefits a worker's taxes supposedly funded - what Congress misled them into thinking they "earned".
